Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis is a serious condition most commonly known as a blood clot in the veins of the legs. Left untreated, the clot can cause permanent damage to the leg (postthromboti syndrome) and much more serious conditions, even death. According to the Society of Interventional Radiology, one out of every 100 people who develops DVT dies.

DVT is the result of blood pooling due to slow circulation of blood in the lower extremities. Most often this occurs when you are sick, injured, or inactive.

Interventional radiologists can remove the clot through catheter-directed thrombolysis.
